Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. A Goshen woman has released a new documentary that tells the story of the war in Iraq through the eyes of American soldiers. Filmmaker Deborah Scranton gave cameras to members of the NH National Guard and had them chronicle their experiences. 10 soldiers took cameras on roads riddled with IED'S. They carried these cameras into combat even allowed them into their own internal conversations. They mounted the cameras on their helmets and the dashboards of their vehicles. Scranton then edited 900 hours of film into a 94-minute documentary. "The War Tapes" is the first war movie filmed by soldiers themselves on the front lines of Iraq. It's a close-up look of the dangers of battle and day-to-day life in Iraq. Let's take a look: |

"The War Tapes" follows three NH guardsmen including a father of two from New Hampshire who re-enlisted after September 11th. Specialist Mike Moriarty of Windsor is here along with filmmaker Deborah Scranton to talk about the documentary. Welcome. Q DEBORAH: How did this whole notion of giving Soliders cameras.come about? WHY Q You had to CONVINCE soldiers to volunteer. Was that a tough sell?? focused on a few -- how did you chose? Q SPECIALIST MORIARTY/MIKE: Why did you say YES -- any concerns? ** What convinced you? Q We just saw footage that depicted the PANIC of an I-E-D detonation? DOES that bring IT all back. ** Does the film capture what day-to-day life was like in Iraq?? Q SCRANTON: This is as close as you can get to combat -- without being there. This does not get into the POLITICS of the War, why we're there. What MESSAGE did you want to get ACROSS?? "The War Tapes" will open in New Hampshire on June 22nd at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord. On June 23rd, it will premiere at Regal Cinemas in Manchester. It will open in theatres around the country in the coming months. |
